NEXT PUBLIC MEETING FOR RESIDENTS IN SW18 AND SW19 TO VOICE THEIR VIEWS NOVEMBER 14 AT 1930 AT ST MICHAEL’S CHURCH, 71 WIMBLEDON PARK ROAD, LONDON SW18 5TT
November 7 2023: Following on from the highly successful meeting organised at St Barnabas church in September and the Merton PAC meeting last month, there will now be another meeting for residents to learn about new developments, environmental impact, legal updates and next steps.
All local residents in both SW18 and SW19 are welcome to attend at St Michael’s Church at St Michael’s Church, 71 Wimbledon Park Road, London SW18 5TT on November 14th.
Simon Wright, Southfields resident, said,“Community feeling against the AELTC plans for Wimbledon Park has hardened since last month’s Merton PAC. Over 750 people have signed the petition in the last ten days taking the total to nearly 14,000. AELTC must understand how the community feels. Five years ago they were telling the media that the project would be delivered in partnership with the local community - well now is their chance to honour that promise. We would welcome them to come along next week.”
Iain Simpson, Chair, SWP, said, “My thanks to Simon for organising another meeting for residents. AELTC are breaking promises made thirty years ago not to build on the land and continue to make no attempt to have a dialogue with people who live right next to the championships. This goes against everything they are have been saying about public consultations with the community and they have to recognise, as their own report did, the significant environmental damage on Metropolitan Open Land.”
